Jake Sully wheelchair action figure gets razzed

Hey Mattel, your Jake Sully wheelchair action figure can stand, has shabby seams, and looks nothing like Sam Worthington. Is this the best you can do?
If this was an action figure of me I’d be pissed. Good thing Jake Sully is a fictional character, and has no access to lawyers.

“Sympathy for Delicious” stars actual paraplegic, Mark Ruffalo directs

This movie follows a jaded DJ paraplegic who mysteriously wakes up with the gift to heal others, but discovers he still can’t heal himself. “Sympathy for Delicious” also stars Orlando Bloom and Juliette Lewis, and was written by Christopher Thornton, the film’s star.

It has a cool back story too. Thornton and Ruffalo are old acting school buddies from before Thornton’s injury (a rock climbing accident) in 1992. This script was a longtime coming too (an  idea Thornton had while wheeling to the liquor store).

The completed film is premiering at Sundance this week. If anyone out there has seen it yet, let us know what you thought (good or bad). Does it deserve to be picked up?

You can read more of my thoughts on the movie here.

It’s the last season of Lost, and Sawyer’s jumping off a cliff?

I’ll admit I fell in love with Lost late in the game. Thanks to every episode available on ABC.com (and because the show is really that addictive), I watched all four seasons last winter before the start of Season 5 (wheelchair-users need something to do here in Minnesota when the snow flies). And now, it’s crazy, but it’s in my Top 3 shows, (1) Six Feet Under, (2) Battlestar Galactica, and (3) Lost, with Lost knocking Sex & The City out of the Top 3.

In honor of the last season of the show premiering next Tuesday (which is depressing as Hell btw, and I hope the the ending come May isn’t more Opium-induced visions from J.J. Abrams), here is the brand new smoking hot Davidoff Cool Water commercial starring the official heatthrob of Lost (NOT Jack) - Mr. “Sexy Pants” Josh Holloway.

I’m a Sawyer girl. What can I say.

Meet Jake Sully, the wheelchair-using hero in “Avatar”

James Cameron’s new movie “Avatar” focuses on a paralyzed Marine, as he traverses an alien world in a body that allows him to walk. Where will his loyalties lie?

This looks amazing

Coco Before Chanel (“Coco Avant Chanel”)

Finally! A movie I’m looking forward to see! And if you don’t know the tawdry, fascinating back-story of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, you’re in for a treat! (especially if you love period films set in 1930’s France. Me!)

This highly-buzzed film stars Audrey Tatou as Coco and WILL be a film with subtitles. I <3 me some subtitles though. It lends to the authenticity. Wouldn’t it been cool if Gladiator had all been in Latin? (yes!)

Anywhos, Coco Before Chanel opens in select cities September 25th. And in the words of Dave Letterman: You better damn hope your city gets selected!

Preview to check out: “The Boat That Rocked”

If you loved “Love Actually,” you’ll love this! (same director, Richard Curtis)

The Thanksgiving Show

Listen to my latest No Free Rides podcast for Xable.com. It’s our annual Thanksgiving show and this year, I interviewed a paraplegic woman by the name of Julia, who lives in the Texas panhandle, and has been cooking the entire Thanksgiving feast for 6 years (and she’s only 26!).

Julia is married and is your quintecessential Texan lady. So listen to me BS with her about all the recipes she makes, tricks and tips she has for wheelers out there, and even find out how her and her hubby met.

Have a tasty Thanksgiving dinner everyone! I know I will.

“Body of War” Now on Netflix

And they’ve given it the awesome “Watch Now” feature, so you don’t have to wait for it to be mailed. Rock.

Check it out: “Body of War” on Netflix.

Since Obama won, this documentary about a paralyzed vet from the Iraq War (along with Phil Donahue, a co-director of the film) has been getting tons of buzz, especially when you compare it to the buzz it received initially (not a lot). After it premiered last April, sure it got some above-average reviews at Sundance, and was shown at conferences around the country, but that was the end of the “Body of War” hype. But now, with the possibility of the US pulling out of Iraq stronger than ever before, movies like this I’m assuming are going to continue to be catapulted to the forefront of the public eye.

And is it just me, or does Tomas Young look a lot like Seth Green (except hotter, and with brown hair)?

Anyways, I know what I’m watching tonight!

My Latest Guilty Pleasure…

…it ain’t Heroes or Nip/Tuck  anymore. No, it’s now Kath & Kim: My latest TV guilty pleasure. And I have NBC to thank.

Their take on this hysterical Australian-import is a rainbow of win. And I may even be one of the few people who like this show (the reviews haven’t been the best), but I could honestly give a rat’s ass. IT’S GREAT. And their casting choices of Molly Shannon as the embarassing mother, and Selma Blair as the self-centered daughter? Brilliant.

Also, you’d also never guess Molly Shannon was only 8 years Selma’s senior. I still haven’t decided if this is a compliment or not…

Anyways, there’s been three episodes aired to date and you can watch them all for free (and legally) on NBC’S official Kath & Kim website.

PS. If you’re a fan of the Scissor Sisters, you gotta watch the opening credits of the show below. “Cause your filthy, and I’m gorgeous…”

Fantastic song choice, NBC peeps. I’ve seen the Scissor Sisters perform this song live several times. It rocks.
